793 Posts Posted - 08/23/2008 : 6:17:40 PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Capt Rich is a top notch guide and person.

The wife and I fished with him spring of 07, my boat was in the shop and we were headed down for a weekend and I booked a 1/2 day trip with him.

He was very patient with my wife and was not one of these to bait the hook, cast the rod, set the hook and then let you pull the fish in. He actually taught my wife to use a spinning reel and she even caught a nice black drum.

He will work is rear end off for you as well, in fact the day we fished the fish were not on fire by any means but he actually kept us out longer than what we paid for just trying to get some sheepheads to bite.

Great guy and if I were headed down without my boat he would be the first I would call

58 Posts Posted - 08/27/2008 : 08:40:28 AM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Capt. Rich is first class. He has taught me and my fishing buddies many tricks and he knows how to put you on the fish. We had so much fun the first time that we have went back on different charters several times with him. He is one of the few guides in charleston who will actually spend the time with you teaching you techniques that help you catch bigger fish and isn't one of those "know-it-all" fishers who post on here all the time. He is a great guide and a pleasure to fish with.

Dear Captain Rich:

Wanted to take a moment to say how much we all enjoyed our day on the water with you. We've already had the pleasure of two lovely meals for 6 with the sheephead and drum we caught last week. All remaining catch made the journey safely back to Huntsville AL frozen solid on "dry ice", so we're looking forward to two more delicious dinners.

Our 11-year-old son learned a lot from you; it was the highlight of his trip to Charleston. I would not hesitate to recommend your service to others inquiring about fishing in Charleston.

Sincerely,

Frances Steel Huntsville AL

Capt. Rich,

A note of thanks for a great fishing trip for Chris, Jason and I on Sunday Aug. 5.

We had a lot of fun catching specs in the Cooper and The monster Red out at Sumter. Please forward the pictures you took when you get a chance.

I will recommend you to anyone coming to Charleston for fishing, and will contact you the next time we are down.

Best regards, and God bless.

Dear Rich,

I wanted to thank you for your services on Saturday, June 9th, 2007. I really enjoyed our time together. You made the trip both fun and a learning experience. I learn a new skill in learning how to catch sheephead, and I really enjoyed catching the bonnet heads. Having fished with a number of other guides, it was easily the most fun that I have had on a fishing trip in years. I look forward to fishing with you again when the weather cools down, and trying again for the super slam.

Thanks again for a great trip.

Richard, Thanks again for a great day of fishing. You topped the trip last year which was excellent. I just want to know what you will do next year? Charlie, Chris and I had a great time, and the Sheephead was delicious, just as you said. Also, please let Teresa know that we all enjoyed the boat ride.

Had some clients from California in town this week and the boat was in the shop, so I booked Captain Rich Harris for today, based on his posts on the captains page. We started off 'slow' with several reds up to 12 pounds and a bunch of trout, 5 minutes from the landing...After 45 minutes of that 'slow' stuff we moved and landed 15 sheepshead...then we took a boat ride and caught at least 35 trout (keeping 7)...finished the 6 hour tour with another nice red at our last spot. I have booked dozens of guides and captains in 8 states and 5 foreign countries and Captain Rich is among the best ever... My clients were (perhaps still are) novice fishermen and he explained every step they needed to take to land 3 different species...and they each landed (unassisted) each species...and I mean good sized ones also...reds were over 5 pounds and sheepshead up to 8 pounds... Those needing tips and a little extra knowledge should book Captain Rich for a really good expereince...Don't worry Fritz, I still think you are good too.

Capt' Rich,

Once again we had a great time fishing with you…of course we missed Buster!!! But we had a productive day and everyone had a lot of fun. This was our third trip out with you this year…and every time I am just as impressed as the first time. You know how to fish and you know where the fish are! Everyone wants me to tell you to give a big "Hey" to Buster. Don’t know if we will make it back this year or not…but definitely expect us back as soon as we can get down there. Thanks again for a very enjoyable time...and for the Reel Deel Charters hat. Take Care and God Bless!!!

Rich, what a great day we had. I wanted to provide you with feedback you can use on your website as you see fit. Alex and I had a great trip and thoroughly enjoyed your ability to put us on the fish, show us the techniques to catch and clean them and oh by the way we caught a bunch. The flounder and drum were a challenging catch but worth the patience to catch. The trout were biting and you put us right on some big ones. I look forward to fishing with you again in the near future. Here are a few pictures. Thanks Buck

This is what Kevin Reno wrote on charlestonfishing.com:

hey jdubbs, It's like deja-vu reading your report. I fished with Capt Rich just yesterday(in the wando) and we caught a half dozen trout, three real nice flounder, a spottail and about a dozen sheephead. The sheephead fishing was a true lesson taught by Capt Rich and now I know what that bite feels like and am now confident I can catch them anytime on my own This was the third charter boat I've been on this summer and the first two captains were very disappointing and frankly a waste of time. Capt Rich is a Professional Guide that actually knows how to put clients on fish. Thinking back he is the best guide I have ever had...

This is what Matt Wright wrote on Charlestonfishing.com:

this post is a few days behind, I've had the fishing rig for a few months now with limited success, so I turned to the experts (a local guide) Capt Rich Harris of ReelDeal and his cohort "Buster" took my wife and I out last friday morning (18 Aug). We fished bushy park/yellowhouse area. Pulled up to a trout hole caught close to ten (shrimp/mullet under a cork) and left them biting, I wanted to see more, and Capt Harris delivered. Moved on to a bait creek and restocked. Couple more trout and a red in yellowhouse and then it was on to sheephead. My first experience with this, awesome, caught our own fiddlers off the bank. Reminded me of finicky freshwater trout with the bite until you set the hook and felt like you were hung. Finished up near bushy with the wife and I both hooking a flounder. Totals for the day were about 14 trout, 1 red, 2 flounder, and 6 sheephead. I was able to post my first inshore slam. I have been out each day since and have not been skunked, the knowledge passed was well worth it. Today fished across from Remleys and put two trout and crazy lady fish in the boat off the spook, do they put alcohol fumes in a spook, cause I think I am addicted to topwater? are there any 6 step programs to get healed?

I see some guys posting looking for help, I recommend hooking yourself up with a guide, it will give you that extra kick in the pants to get over the hump and learn just enough to make yourself dangerous to the fish. Capt Harris gave me a 6 hour lesson from his 20 years of charleston fishing and provided my wife and I with some great pics and memories Now I'm off to okalahoma for 6 weeks, going to be in denial, but I'm taking my spook and sleeping with it under my pillow

tight lines, these reports will be my saving grace while I'm gone

Hi Captain Rich: Going out on the shark fishing trip was the highlight of our vacation week for all of us. We're sure to be asking you to take us out again. The kids are so proud of the fish they caught, and we and the parents of our kids' friends are proud of them. Big confidence builder, pulling in sharks and big reds.

Thanks again and God bless, Todd Matson

Hey Captain Rich, Well, the weeks have flown by since we've gotten back to Wisconsin. But just wanted to drop a line to thank you for the wonderful time out on the water. I know that we sure learned a lot with you. You made the fishing adventure a memorable one and we hope to be back soon. I really enjoyed reeling in all those sea trout. And I know Mike was ecstatic when that Red hit the line. Thanks for the great time. Best of luck with the fishing the rest of the summer and into the fall. Thanks again, Julie and Mike

Rich, Just wanted to drop a line and thank you for the awesome trip! Really learned a ton and enjoyed another day in the greatest city on Earth! Furthermore, I learned a little more humility at the site of that break off... so much for the flats!

We'll be back down next in mid-August. I'll probably bring the boat down for that one, but I'm going to try and get my wife and father in law out with you one of those days. I know they will have a blast and learn a lot more than I can teach them.

Also, that was a really great thing you did with discounting the charter cost for the tow back. It was unnecessary but thoughtful and appreciated. I'm sure that I can never tip a great guide enough, but hopefully, my return business will help to make it even one day. You can rest assured that you'll get all my referrals.

Appreciate the mentoring and fellowship. Look forward to heading out with you again in a few. Shoot me some pics of the new boat when you get it...

Thanks again, Lance.

Dear Rich, Wow! What a day for me, my father Fred, my son Will, and Will's friend Eric. You and Buster were such terrific guides and hosts. So focused on putting us on the fish yet so kind and gracious in how you treated us, especially my 84-year-old dad! With Will graduating from medical school on Friday, I wanted to find something for us to do to celebrate together on Saturday and the fishing trip was an absolutely perfect choice because of what you guys did for us. We took home 18 keepers and released 8, including the 31 inch red that got everyone excited and made the trip for Eric. Everyone talked about the trip and the fishing for days.

It's now been two trips that I have been out with you, and the way you have treated us both times only makes me want to come back for more. I am beginning to think of you and Buster as more than just fishing guides but as true friends in Christ. Thanks again for all that you did for us. God's blessing to you both, Bruce

Captain Rich, Mike and I wanted to thank you for a fabulous day of fishing. Your knowledge of the Cooper River is quite impressive, to say the least. YOU ARE IN THE KNOW on the hot spots. I will continue to reel first, set the hook, then bring 'em in. Next time, I will give you my undivided attention when you want me to watch your line. I won't snap "I gotta watch my cork man, I can’t be watching you." Thanks again, we had an extraordinary time. In Christ, Mike and Michelle

Captain Rich Just wanted to take a moment to thank you for the fantastic fishing trip what a day cannot remember how many fish we caught. Catching the bull reds larger than the slot limit what a fight . But the highlight of my day was the 4lb 13oz flounder. The Busterism's were absolutely hilarious never a dull moment. The tour with yourself and Teresa was fantastic it was the talk of the evening with our wives. Cannot hardly wait until the next time!!!!!!!!! Thanks again and god bless. Skip

Captain Rich,

Kevin and I had a great time fishing today. I made up one of the Red Drum for dinner and it was awesome. Kevin and I both said that if we knew how good that fish was, we would have taken the keys out of the boat where we were catching them.

Thanks again, Dudley

Capt Rich,

"What a great experience! Took us right to the fishing hot spots--we had hits at every location. Even gave us some history on some of the locations and scenic hot spots, he showed us; Patriot's point, and the Battery just to name a couple. Capt Rich is definitely the guide to call-- knows the right places to fish, knows/uses the right bait to catch fish, has all the equipment you will need, and guarantees you are going to have a fun day. Only wish we could do this every weekend--I'm hooked."

Thanks again for the fun and hospitality You are definitely in the prime of your life and working at what you enjoy most--we all should be so lucky. Dan Cook

Just had to drop you a line and let you know how much of a great time we had . My nephew Ben really had the best time. This was his first time on a boat and also he caught his biggest fish to date. My dad and I appreciate the time and patience you gave Ben (and us too). The only thing that I wish we could have changed would have been a longer trip. Other than that it was great. I have never caught anything from saltwater before and seeing the Manatee was a real bonus. I hope that the next time we are in the Charleston area we can book a longer trip with you and try some lure fishing. If I end up with the "record" fish for the year could you please send the t-shirt to my nephew?

Once again, thank you for a great day fishing. Bill Welch

Wow, what a fishing trip.  Not know what to expect, we started out early (0600).  Capt. Rich and Buster put us on the fish immediately, putting us on trout immediately.  We caught and lost so many fish, we had to leave the area and throw a cast net to get more bait.  Next, we went after the red fish and flounders.  I was able to pull in a red fish, with the help of the Capt.  My dad was caught several flounders during the day.  Overall, the trip was a great time.  Full of great conversation, humorous moments, and the most important thing, great fishing.  Thanks again to Capt. Rich and Buster for the hospitable time, by the way, the fish tasted great.

I just wanted to take the time to say thank you for the great day we had out on the water. We had a lot of fun. The only thing I can think of to recommend differently would be: Don't use the new coopertone spray sunscreen. It only works in a 3 to 4 inch range infront of the nozel, and even if you think you are fully covered, you aren't. We had some pretty funny looking sunburns the next day. Erin called my husband a zebra because he had stripes on his back from the sunscreen. Other than that, everything was great. The pictures you sent looked really good also. If we ever get out that way again, we will have to go shark fishing!

Thank you for the memories, and the great companionship! Sue Leinweber P.S. Have you ever thought of having a guest book on your website for people to "sign" with their experiences?
